Dishwasher

Location: Washington, DC

POSITION SUMMARY: The Dishwasher is an essential member of the back-of-house team, ensuring smooth kitchen operations and a clean, organized work environment. This role supports both the culinary and front-of-house teams by maintaining a steady flow of clean, sanitized equipment, dishes, and utensils. A great Dishwasher works efficiently, communicates clearly, and takes pride in maintaining the cleanliness and organization that keeps the restaurant running at its best.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Uphold the company’s core values through teamwork, reliability, and professionalism.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked dishwashing station at all times.
  • Clean and sanitize all dishes, glassware, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment according to established standards.
  • Set up and break down the dish area, including dish machines, sinks, drying racks, and trash bins.
  • Assist in keeping all kitchen areas, floors, and equipment clean and safe throughout service.
  • Communicate supply needs or maintenance issues (chemicals, cleaning agents, equipment malfunctions) promptly to the Chef or Manager.
  • Support chefs and cooks by restocking clean wares as needed during service.
  • Assist with receiving and organizing deliveries, ensuring items are stored according to food safety standards.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with both kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure seamless service.
  • Follow all sanitation, food safety, and Department of Health regulations.
  • Exhibit a professional appearance, punctuality, and a positive attitude.
  • Remain calm and focused in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Prior experience as a dishwasher or in a similar role preferred.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and reliability.
  • Ability to communicate and follow instructions in English (verbal and written).
  • Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a positive, proactive approach.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Stand and walk for extended periods (up to 12 hours).
  • Frequently bend, reach, lift, and carry heavy items (up to 50 lbs).
  • Handle hot cookware, cleaning chemicals, and sharp utensils safely.
  • Work in warm, humid, and sometimes noisy environments.
  • Maintain stamina, coordination, and focus during high-volume operations.
